I'm also starting to mess with modular building for my levels. This is just an early phase, I'm instantiating just one module here. The pattern is of course inspired by building with triangles and squares in survival games like Rust or Conan.
Plus a Dark Ocean and updated lighting system..
More modular and geometric exploration in the video below. Should this world be clean and geometric, for the sake of platforming? Should it be a bit more natural and chaotic, and less platformy? Can it be both?.. I think these are some of the hardest, most important questions in the life of this project.. My original vision for Seven Signs is closer to creating a low poly organic world. Even when I was working on the 2D platformer, the idea was somehow similar, make a platformer that's closer to Limbo, rather than Mario. But I've been corrupted recently, by playing with geometric patterns. : }
I'm looking at various ways of building this world modularly atm.. in a way that is designed, not random. And in a way that allows me to focus on art and design. I'd like to have a free style level, where each module can be very different from others... so not like your usual grid like procedural maze. But more like Rogue Legacy's designed rooms.
