Btw, he's a furry raptor. Velocifuraptor. But all vicious raptor features, like sharp teeth and scary claws, have been softened and babysized and cutified.
One more summer project, while on a quick.. ish break from Pulps. I wanted to try some fur and different tools for 3D modeling and texturing. Complete disruption of my primitive 3D creation workflows, I thought I should try some high rez sculpt and retopo and displacement rendering. ^ ^ So I should animate this little guy today.. maybe. Here's a bit of WIP..
..and yeah, his name is Spotty, but doesn't really have spots. He was designed to be Spotty, became Stripy at some point, and then kinda lost his stripes. So I mean.. he could be Scotty McSnotty or anything. But why not just Spotty, for old times' sake? Once you get stuck with a name, you get stuck with a name. Even if you lose your spots.
Btw, he's a furry raptor. Velocifuraptor. But all vicious raptor features, like sharp teeth and scary claws, have been softened and babysized and cutified. Completely random pic.. has nothing to do with Pulp Planet. I was messing around with some high poly modelin' an' retopo an' PBR texturin' an' renderin', trying to understand the PBR workflow outside Unreal. Unreal makes it pretty easy and straightwfd, but PBR can be confusing if things don't just plug-n-play. Also.. I have mostly avoided texturing, for as far as I can remember. I still do. I still hate UVs and try to autoUV everything. For Pulp Planet I planar map - micro-UV everything, the texture ends up covering a tiny UV space, and is being used only as a color palette. Maybe I'll make a small tutorial one day... So anyway, mostly procedural texturing here, I'm amazed how far you can go with just using a mouse. I used the tablet just for modeling bullshitss.. I think it's kinda ironic that a painting tool ends up being used to create geometry, but not for any actual painting. ^ ^
Can you say that 3 times faster..
Monsters have been replaced by Plants. Not entirely.. but almost entirely. The AI was too inefficient, especially for lower end PCs. I wasn't able to spawn AIs in large enough numbers. It has been downgraded to Fauna. So. Plants! Are better! : D They do the same thing, but don't actively chase you everywhere, so you can have a breather from time to time.. which is better! They spit plasma projectiles if you brush against them lightly.. but will create violent chain reactions if you bump straight into them. And they also make a lot of sense thematically, in this Floral Fantasy.. where you 'eat' some flowers, and some flowers 'eat' you!
There is also a new mechanic, called Mirage.. which is an Alien Duck Thing you should try to catch! It's sometimes fast. Both Raven and The Mind tell you about it, in more or less obscure ways. Later on in game there comes the.. ummm.. Space Goose! Which is really where you want to get to, but only if you reach the True End first! The Space Goose has, let's say, more like no-nonsense kinda answers. Speaking of Lore tho, you will be told lots of lies. You decide where the truth is!
OK, and let's get this out of the way. There's an End, and a True End. The End is Blue. The True End is Yellow. And will tell you something more like 'the Truth'. You could call it: the Truth End. Kinda. That's it. But wait.. the game is actually Endless. ^ ^ |
