Wolfy's coming along... after gazillion modifications... I was hoping to create fake cloth with Michael Comet's pose deformer. Guess what. Didn't really work as expected. The guy told me himself - you can't use the PSD for correcting twisting beyond 90 degrees for example. I had to fight all kinds of weirdnesses on correcting ball joint deformations, until I realized it's not gonna be... so I freaked out for a short while and even though I'll abandon my Wolfy project. Anyway, after a few days of intense cloth work, I put together a crazy version of cloth that can basically resist to fast movement and is stable and solves very fast. The hair is also very very fast to compute and it renders in just a few seconds. I used Maya fur and dynamic hair curves to animate it, and Syflex for cloth. Inside the cloth there IS NO body, only an illusion, through fake margins... and in fact, ALL the collisions are made with lots and lots of sphere-colliders and ellipse-colliders (extremely fast and stable). Got my inspiration from Endorphin, where the human body is a bunch of simple geometrical shapes that collide very efficiently.
So here's Wolfy, I animated a few poses just to test the cloth movement. I won't have the cloth collide with itself, for speed and stability, which means I'll have to do a little bit of shot sculpting with this character if I want all the cloth to look perfect. But shot sculpting is a lot of fun, and starting with Maya 8 they make it easy for you. So anyway, I don't have to worry about simulations now, I just import the body animation from Motion Builder, animate the face in Maya, and then spit out a cache, sculpt that cache if I want... and then light and render. Might sound complicated, but in fact it's very smoothly streamlined. OK, that's it for now. No textures yet and no facial stuff. I'm starting face stuff tomorrow!
