Here's a quick scene rendered with Viewport 2.0. Almost 500k polys, updates in the viewport at 10-20 fps and renders HD/2K at probably... 3-4 fps, maybe faster.
mmm... ok... I'm waiting...
Just bought a new graphic card, an Nvidia gtx 560, and I've been playing with some realtime rendering in MachStudioPro, Furryball, and Viewport 2.0 in maya 2012. While the first 2 are clearly superior in terms of features, I have some issues with them... first of all, the new Furryball crashes Maya in many cases and doesn't render in the viewport, probably a problem on my system, I'm sure it works fine for others. MachStudio is really awesome and has some really advanced features like GI/color bleeding and high quality occlusion... but it's unfortunately not a Maya renderer, but a separate application, and exporting scenes and recreating shading and so on... is not so efficient, and probably not even possible if we're talking about exporting point caches with variable point count... not sure. Anyway, doesn't cut it for me, since I want to build my pipeline around Maya, use Maya's referencing system to import assets, shaders, etc. So... last thing.. and the least impressive, Viewport 2.0... no fancy features, no SSS, no raytracing... but it's part of Maya, it's solid, no crashes, and has excellent antialiasing and pretty good support for Maya shaders and lights. I'm gonna dig more into this one for now, but I'd really love to have a more advanced solution, like Furryball, but fast and robust. Here's a quick scene rendered with Viewport 2.0. Almost 500k polys, updates in the viewport at 10-20 fps and renders HD/2K at probably... 3-4 fps, maybe faster. and tweaked a bit in comp... :D Now on for some DX11 goodness... let the tessellation heavy games come!... :D
mmm... ok... I'm waiting...
